At Hotel Eden, Dorchester Collection’s Roman address, the third chapter of the exhibition series Echoes Through Time opens — the artistic project promoted by the hotel in collaboration with Galleria Russo (active since 1898). From March 6 through April 23, hotel guests will have the opportunity to admire the works of Giorgio Tentolini, seamlessly integrated into the hotel’s public spaces.
Born in 1978 in Casalmaggiore, Giorgio Tentolini develops an artistic practice centered on time, memory, and identity through the layering of materials such as tulle, wire mesh, paper, and PVC. Suspended between painting and sculpture, his works are distinguished by a visual and conceptual lightness that arises from the dialogue between light and shadow, fullness and emptiness. Active since 2000 and featured in major international venues, he has also exhibited at institutions such as Palazzo Reale in Milan. His practice combines construction and subtraction, transforming time into an operative element: images gradually emerge, shift according to the viewer’s perspective, and exist within an unstable and liminal perceptual dimension.
The sources of his research range from classical art to the philosophy of perception, from photography to printmaking techniques, with a constant reference to Greco-Roman statuary as a repository of visual memory. Time and memory are not merely themes but structural elements of the work itself: through overlays and transparencies, images appear as temporary outcomes of continuous stratification, evoking the unstable nature of remembrance. Light assumes a central role, serving as a metaphor for memory itself, while timeless figures emerge and dissolve within the perceptual space. In this way, Tentolini restores to beauty a fragile and transitory dimension, conceiving it as an experience fulfilled only in the encounter between artwork and viewer.
