Curated by critic Maurizio Vanni Stabat Mater is the first anthological exhibition of Tommaso Ottieri at the MARCA – Catanzaro Museum of the Arts. The project and realization of the exhibition came about thanks to the meeting of the Provincial Administration of Catanzaro, the Rocco Guglielmo Foundation and Galleria Russo in Rome, in order to put a focus on the production of a contemporary artist of strong interest and marked personal character.
This is not a simple exhibition but a true anthological exhibition, enriched by a video – documentary made by the Cultural Association Art Doc Festival, which allows one to immerse oneself and be moved by the progress and development of Ottieri’s work. A child of his own time, the artist empathizes with the historical moment, the here and now, seeking to transform the general and epochal sense of bewilderment by reappropriating elements common to the collective imagination,
reworking them. In his works, in fact, Ottieri seeks to shift the viewers’ attention from a simple iconographic quest to a decisive and profound investigation of architectural forms and physioniomic details, understood as a personal expression of the spectrum of eternity.
The exhibition will present work, as the artist says, in which architecture is not his primary interest; his project, in fact, is related to color. In his works he does not seek the subject, but its soul reflected through color, material and light. The latter becomes his hallmark, his signature, the substance that animates his works, which creates a very personal vision of reality and is resolved in the improbable relationship between chromes and light, to readjust the composition.
